There’s something truly special about Bertie Bear. He’s quickly become my best-selling pattern and it’s easy to see why. The Story Behind Bertie

Bertie was born from the success of Barnaby Bear, a jointed memory bear I designed with traditional charm in mind. But I wanted to offer an alternative for people who found cotter pin joints a bit daunting (even though, in my opinion, jointed bears are actually easier to make!).

So Bertie became Barnaby’s little brother, capturing all the essence and heirloom feel of a traditional teddy bear, just without the joints. That way, there’s something for everyone.

What Makes Bertie So Special

Bertie has all the character of a classic heirloom-style teddy, but with a simplified construction. He still looks jointed, with beautifully shaped arms and legs that sit just right, but it’s all sewn in. That means no fiddly joint pieces, no tools, and less hand sewing.

And yet, he still manages to stand out from the crowd. Whether made from sentimental clothing or luxurious mohair, Bertie has that unmistakable vintage style that connects with people instantly.
