Neville’s Bear Sewing Pattern – A Little Bear with a Big Legacy (PDF Digital Download)
Introducing the Neville’s Bear Sewing Pattern
We are honoured to share the Neville’s Bear Sewing Pattern, a truly special heirloom bear inspired by one incredibly brave little boy. Designed to capture the tiny size of baby Neville, this delicate, fully jointed bear stands just 17 cm tall from tabletop to ear tip. Though small in stature, Neville’s Bear carries immense heart and purpose, both as a beautiful keepsake and a way to honour Neville’s legacy.
This pattern is ideal for sewers ready to stretch their skills a little further. It includes traditional cotter pin and disc joints for movable limbs and head, and while it does involve an element of hand sewing, every stitch is worth the effort. If you've never made a jointed bear before, this is a gentle introduction that encourages you to grow your confidence while creating something truly meaningful.
What Makes Neville’s Bear Unique?
-
Delicately Jointed Design: Neville’s Bear features fully jointed limbs and head using traditional cotter pin and disc joints, giving him a poseable, classic teddy bear finish.
-
Tiny Size, Big Impact: At just 17 cm tall, Neville’s Bear is a faithful reflection of the precious little boy who inspired him. His small scale is perfect for treasured fabrics and delicate detailing.
-
Made with Love and Purpose: Neville’s Bear was originally created as a gift for Neville, a way to celebrate his strength and capture the journey he was on. While he was still with us, we planned to share the pattern to raise money to thank the NICU team caring for him. Now, with his parents’ blessing, this bear takes on a new role, to keep Neville’s memory alive and create a lasting legacy in his name.
-
A Worthwhile Challenge: Slightly more advanced than beginner patterns, this project invites you to gently push yourself and discover the joy of making a truly heirloom-quality bear.

Haven't used this pattern yet, have been really busy with Barnaby, but looking
forward to making bears with Neville.
This is the third pattern I have brought from Collette and once again an exceptional clear beautifully written pattern. I have it printed out ready to cut out this sweet little bear in mohair. Hope I do him justice. Thank you Collette. From Colette(😂)
I love this little bear so much. So special. Easy to follow pattern.
Thank you for taking the time to share a review. We're so pleased to hear you're enjoying Neville's Bear.
Such a lovely bear to make...and such a tribute to the short life of Neville.
First time making a tiny bear.First time using cotter joints. All went well thanks to the detailed instructions.
On my next little bear I might position the arm and legs further forward.
Hey! Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review. We really appreciate it!
You've mentioned the position on the limbs being a little too far back.
Looking at your photos it looks like you've got both side body pieces together at the back then the tummy and back pieces together at the front. There should be no centre tummy seam, just one central tummy piece and one central back piece. Hopefully this helps for your limb positioning next time.

I’ve just completed my first ‘Neville bear’ today, and I adore him. He is small, so there were a couple of tricky moments, but that’s as much to do with my sewing experience as it is Neville’s small stature. Slow and steady won the day and I thoroughly enjoyed the process. I have a small memory bear business, and I’m seriously considering offering Neville as an option for my customers because he really is completely adorable.
